The History, Growth And Future Of Social Media
Soon before the popularity of social media reached its highest peak is the evolution of social media which actually started with the use of the so – called Bulletin Board System (BBS) which is being used by the early technologist to communicate with its main center, download files, and also send some messages to contacts. At that time, the practice of computers is not that popular because they used telephones to do those things via modem. But it is somehow made them worry since sending and calling people in long distances may require a large amount of money rates for those telephones used. It continuously reached its popularity in the community until the late ‘90s when the internet actually discovered.
Other than that is the one called CompuServe which is used for social connecting and interacting to people in all other places. Just like in the BBS, Compuserve also allows its users to download and share files as well as to get in track with the news and reports. Not only that, social interaction through sending of emails to people is also practiced with its thousands of users worldwide.
The usage of the internet was first practiced in the late 90s. During that time, Classmates.com is one of those social media networking websites which is proven to be effective in letting the people have a close contact with each other. Although users cannot make personal profiles just like the things people have today, still, they were able to find past connections, and other past activities. It was not long enough that this type has then reached its continuous popularity.
Many sites have suddenly evolved during the popularity of social media networking websites in the 21st century. One of these popular social network is Friendster which actually created personal profiles, and to access the website in adding some contacts while having a chance to see the other connections between them. It created a long chain of connections which shows that people are truly connected with each other through a series of contacts in the website. And to its surprise, the website actually reached millions of users just a year after its first opening.
Other social media websites which are similar to Friendster are LinkedIn and Myspace which are launched in 2003. But unlike Friendster which is intended to have connections with friends, these websites are created to those people who belong to a certain business and who want to stay connected with the other professionals. Another one is the one which is widely used today, the Facebook, which was finally launched worldwide in 2006 and can be called as the biggest social media networking website ever created in the history of social media. What makes the Facebook a great hit is its numerous features which allows users to connect, meet new friends, promote businesses, play online games, share files, and a lot more.
These things only show how social media has been a part of the people’s lives especially in terms of doing and building some connections for the betterment of the relationship between them.
